“We cannot live in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not a hope. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening. To use our own voice. To see our own light. “ — Hildegard of Bingen

I have struggled as I am sure all artists due, to find my voice, my own song. And even as I have begun to faintly hear a soft melody emerge I have doubted if it worth sharing with the world. Doubted if there was anything remarkable about it. It will be a lifelong struggle I am sure. In a very noisy world it can be hard to know if we are hearing our own voice, or a dull facsimile. I am trying to listen for my voice, trying to shut out noice, so that my art will be filled with the truth of my own voice. It is the best gift I have to offer this world. I’ve wasted too much time worrying about how my photos don’t look like “this” or how I can’t create like “that”… I’ve robbed myself of creating what I could create. Which is something no one else can.

This family session is probably one of my top 5 favourite family sessions ever. That being said I was terrified going into it. Karina, is an exceptional photographer and beauty creator. Her family is like a beautiful masterpiece, how could I ever do them justice? Karina already captures her family herself so perfectly, if you check out her photos you will understand. I was just so nervous that I wouldn’t be able to offer her something she couldn’t do for herself, and yet I was also so humbled and honoured she would trust me to try. Her trust allowed me to trust my own voice again. The session was on their homestead, and as you will see included their wide array of animals (if you’ve been following me for a while you likely know my love for animals, especially more random ones). They gave me so much to work with, so there was no way I could condense this post. If I could describe this family in three words, it would be grace, beauty and LOVE! My forever goal with my work is to try and capture breathe and life, and I think I succeeded with this session.
